there are forest fires caused by a million things

Kate LaDew, USA

some of them people

and one of those million things

is sunlight through a water droplet on a dry leaf.

as you watch your house burn down and everything in it,

is it better to have a beating heart to blame?

or god, who made the heart and made the water

and made the leaf and made the light

and poured them into the earth and shook until

you couldn't tell one from the other?

Kate LaDew is a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a BA in Studio Art.  She resides in Graham, NC with her cats, Charlie Chaplin and Janis Joplin.
