sniffing the scent of past lives,
reading years between years
For years I've been trading promises with God.
Offering flowers for mercies,
fasts for protection,
money for more wealth.
We should learn a lesson
From the water garden
From the flowers that never sink
Like you, at times
when grief pours down on me,
nothing can ease the pain
but nature
There is a way of breathing
known to those who’ve
walked to the sky on stones and ice
In the middle of June, running
my fingers through the tangled vines
of the potted Calibrochoa

One less malleable
